I have two canister filters that I have been satisfied with. I have had several Maineland 350 that have had for a long time. One lasted me from about 1990 until last year and was starting to get a little loud. I replaced it and I think that I got my moneys worth. The 350 is easy to clean and is fairly quiet. The ones that I have are in cabinets and are quite. Last year I purchased a Fluval 405 and it is super quiet and is also easy to clean. Between the two I would have to say that the Fluval 405 is the quietest. The marieland puts out a little more water (350 gph) than the Fluval (300gph). I think that it is a matter of choice unless you want more flow. Another consideration is the price. The Marineland is a little less money.

I have a Marineland so old that is has a place to oil it. When it gets noisy I know that I have to get out the old oil can the next time I clean it. Even at that, it still keeps on going. I would consider it '' aged''.
