100 gal tank what filter to use!

I have a 100 gal tank and would like to know what filter is best for me. I have two yellow bellies that are about two inches. I am switching them from a 50 gal because I want to add a few more turtles. I have heard that the Fluval fx 5 is the best out there. I do not mind spending good money to get a great filter. Can someone help me with this?? Thanks in advance!!

The Fluval FX5 is a great choice. If you have a 100 gallont there will be a little swirl in the water which is great. You have met the water exchange rate of 5 or more times per hour. Also make sure that the suction is covered as it will suck the turtle in and drown him. They furnish a grate and that will do. b.

When sizing filter for your aquarium you should consider gph and not sizing from a fish tank considerations. Your filter pump should pump at least 5 times the volume that is in the tank. Turtle people should think in terms of 5 or more times the volume -gph- Turtles poo a lot moer than fish.

I agree with Bascomb...GPH is the only way to determine what the adequate filtration for you habitat should be!

I just bought a Fluval 5fx and have no idea what kinds or how much media to put in it. It came with 3 polishing pads, which look like they all could fit comfortably in one compartment. It also came with 3 carbon bags that when all three are in a compartment they cover the bottom of it but don't come close to filling it. I would think I would want the water to go through the carbon and not around it. At that there is still one empty basket. Any Ideas. This is for a 125 gallon tank with 8 res and 2 paints which are all babies. Thanks for any info. Jason the pounder

to pounder.....
you could use those white ring things.... biological filtration.. it keeps ammonia levels down by converting it to nitrates an stuff. and theres mechanical filtration which helps remove more solid pieces of waste an junk from the water.. those are two different options to look at.. id look into em though so you can decide which one would better suite your needs.
