I was given this turtle, and I think it is a striped mud turtle, but not sure.  Would appreciate it if anyone could confirm this for me.  I have red sliders and western paint.. am not familiar with too many other species.  Thanks...

OK, now that I know for sure, will he be OK if I put him in my pond with my red sliders?

Thanks, Diane

Hmm it depends how your pond is built, They are a shallow water turtle, so your pond should to have incline that would easy for him to walk up. Even then as long as pond isnt that deep he still should be fine, they can swim if they have to straight up for air or food. I keep 1 musk with my painteds outside and he swims just fine.

You also need plenty of rest areas. Red Ear Sliders are bigger then a mud turtle and can attack him so it would need to be supervised also just in case. Sometimes there are no problems but sometimes there are. I would just get another tank but, the decision is yours as its your turtle Smiley

Thanks for all the info... my pond is pretty deep, so I think I will just put him in a tank in the house.

Just remember go for a wider tank rather then a tall one.
